INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
It was 2012. I remember walking in to my first WFF conference like it was yesterday…
Women’s Foodservice Forum was my first corporate client after I quit my job in 2010, and I was intimidated by these inspiring women. That year I did my best to just blend in. I photographed them speaking to thousands of women in the foodservice industry and was in complete awe. I didn’t go up and introduce myself to any of the past chairs that year, and it wasn’t until the following year that I decided to sneak in to the Past Chair Reception to snap a few photos (even though it wasn’t on my shot list.) I wanted to capture them connecting with each other and “letting their hair down.” They quickly welcomed me to the dance floor with open arms.
Since then they’ve welcomed me to be included in the Past Chair Reception even when I’m not working the event! I have developed incredible friendships with these women and worked with them individually on their media shots and even their weddings. Own what you bring to the table. If you feel like you don’t have anything to bring to the table... bring yourself and LISTEN. Ask questions. Have REAL conversations that matter, and don’t feel like you have to blend in. You might miss out on some stories & magic.
